In ‘One Empire Wide’ discarded Canadiana is reinterpreted by the artist as architectural models of ice fishing huts. Akin to their full sized counterparts, these scaled down versions engage the vernacular of reclamation, but in lieu of scrap building materials they reuse the detritus of recent Canadian history for their designs. From disposable fast food containers, failed companies, defunct government commissions, abandoned corporate branding to outdated military technology and emigrant sports franchises, these discarded cultural and social fragments are thoughtfully crafted into ingenious, inhabitable structures.

Each lovely little architectural model will be made in an edition of four and available for purchase at the price of $500 a piece.

More Steampunk Architecture From Dave Trautrimas - The SpyFrost Project

above: detail of The Radiant Proliferator

David Trautrimas, the Canadian artist about whose steampunk-like architectural art, The Habitat Machines, I blogged about once before, has a wonderful new series of work called The Spyfrost Project.

The Spyfrost Project
illustrates David's hypothesizing the origins of modern iconic appliances by reassembling them into top secret Cold War era military outposts. These hybrids of machinery and architecture stand as colossal weaponized ancestors to common objects, such as refrigerators, lawnmowers and washing machines.

Steampunk Meets Architecture: Habitat Machines & Factories by David Trautrimas

Canadian artist David Trautrimas has a series of digitally enhanced composite photographs entitled Habitat Machines. A little bit steampunk, a little bit post apocalyptic and a lot of drugs (just kidding), and you've got some very imaginative art. These are compositions of residences made from everyday machines like coffee pots and sprinklers. Prior to the Habitat Machines, he created a collection of factories (as opposed to residences) called Industrial Parkland, those are included in this post as well.
