Emoticons, Creepily Brought To Life, Warn Against The Dangers Of Online Sexual Predators.

Paris ad agency Rosapark has turned the emoticon (or emoji) into creepily stylized humans in a new print ad campaign for the international non-profit devoted to fighting the sexual abuse of children, Innocence en Danger.

"The goal of this new campaign is to educate parents and children on the dangers of the Internet, the hazards of children and adolescents talking to people they do not know who may be hiding under false identities on social networks, forums, discussion and other chats" Said Gilles Lazimi, campaign coordinator.

"A significant number of adults pose as children and are not "friends" but are aggressors, pedophiles and criminals who have one goal: to approach and attack children sexually" says Ms. Homeyra Sellier, President of the Innocence in Danger association. "It is a reality that should not be overlooked, keeping our children safe from danger is important."

Christine Djamila Allaf, the Secretary General of the Innocence Danger Association, recalls the figures: 1 in 5 children in the world today have been sexually solicited on the Internet. 20 % of them do not recognize things online of which their parents do not approve (Symantec study, Harris Interactive, Feb. 2008).

Over 40% of children ages 1-17 years indicate that they have already faced at least one shocking or traumatic image or information while web browsing (SRI 2007).

"The three visuals created by the Rosapark Agency are very compelling. Creating a human figure of the emoticons used on the forums demonstrates the true nature of those who can sometimes hide behind these symbols, including those with prior offenses, dangerous predators and real pedophiles" said Dr. Emmanuelle Piet, campaign coordinator.

The wonderfully creepy photo manipulation in the ads was created by Mécanique Générale.

The 'Emoticon' print campaign against online child sexual predators has been produced in both French and English in both spreads and single page ads. All three ads asks the same question: "Who's really chatting online with your child?" or 'Savez-vous vraiment qui parle avec votre enfant sur internet?'

Deliciously Different Delft by Artist Magnus Gjoen

London based artist Magnus Gjoen’s embellished objects are all created digitally, he does everything on his Mac. His graphic skills are largely self taught and stem from being a self-confessed “geek.” Gjoen keeps a digital scrapbook where he collects images including “everything from pictures of a urinal wall to a painting at the Pitti Palace.”

above: Magnus at work in his studio

To create these images Magnus first builds a virtual 3D base outlining it in illustrator, he then meticulously shadows and highlights it in Photoshop. The delft porcelain pieces require an even more lengthy process as the original flat etchings need to be layered and blurred in just the right way to give the final effect.

About the Artist:

Magnus Gjoen's prints examines how to change peoples relationship and preconceived notions of objects. Something which is potentially extremely destructive can be made into beautiful yet fragile objects of art. It's this misconception of beauty which Magnus Gjoen wants us to see in a different light, being it weapons, animals or the human race itself. The latter which is capable of creating immense beauty but also capable of destroying it all. Taking inspiration from street and pop art and juxtapositioning it with fine art, he creates new and modern takes on old masterpieces or manipulates something powerful and strong into something fragile but beautiful. He often questions the correlation between religion, war, beauty & destruction in his art. Magnus Gjoen was born in London to Norwegian parents and studied design in London and Milan and has worked as a denim designer and graphic designer for Vivienne Westwood amongst others.

Warp Dogs by Benjamin Grelle aka “The Frogman.”

Benjamin Grelle, who goes by the moniker 'The Frogman' on the internet, is the man behind Babies With Laser Eyes, a tumblr site that introduced him to many a viewer.

above: Benjamin Grelle, aka The Frogman, has a sense of humor, some photoshop skills and as he candidly admits on his site, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

A large lovable looking bear of a guy with a penchant for dogs, his latest collection of photoshopped goodness is Warp Dogs. A collection of images of dogs hanging their heads out of car windows - jowls flapping, ears flying - whose backgrounds have been replaced with galaxies viewed at Warp Speed.

Simple and silly, if these images don't make you crack a smile, you're a mean one, Mr. Grinch.

The Beautifully Ethereal, Surreal Work Of Artist Chiara Fersini aka Himitsuhana.

If Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Julia Margaret Cameron, Maxfield Parrish and Mark Ryden had a baby (or spliced their genes together), it would be Chiara Fersini.

The 27 year old Italian visual artist who is also known by the name of her site, Himitsuhana, only recently became interested in photography after a 2007 trip to Japan. A self-proclaimed "lover of photoshop," Chiara transforms her photographs into surreal, ethereal portraits. The sensual and spiritual imagery is full of romance and mystery. In many instances, the photographs look like paintings and several are self-portraits. While her images are reminiscent of Pre-Raphaelite paintings and photography, they have an edge, contemporizing them.

Chiara says her work is more than just a passion for photography and digital manipulation, but reveals her inner emotions and dreams, making them very personal. I'm only glad, she's willing to share them with us. Fiercely copyright protected, I received written permission from Chiara to share the images in this post with you.

About the artist:

"My aim is to portray every single glance of the human soul and encourage people to dream and never stop believing in dreams."-- Chiara Fersini

Chiara Fersini (b. 1986) took a degree in Foreign Languages, English and Japanese. Since she was a child she was surrounded by art. Her mother, a painter and decorator, handed down to her the love for beauty and encouraged her inclination for visual arts. Her interest for photography is very recent; it started out after a study journey in Japan in 2007 and grew faster and faster coinciding with a falling in love with Photoshop. But photography is not just a passion for Chiara, it is the best way to show that intricate world that she feels inside. She put into her works her fears, dreams, her sorrow and joy and seeing them happening into images is a manner to feel free.
